Kingwood
Less than 30 miles north of Houston lies the community of Kingwood. Kingwood numbers almost 70,000 residents of different backgrounds and is commonly referred to as “The Livable Forest,” a nod to this master-planned community’s living in harmony with nature and sitting on the northern shores of Lake Houston.
Kingwood was founded more than 50 years ago when, in 1971, the land the community currently occupies was purchased by King Ranch, which later partnered with the Friendswood Development Company. The joint venture produced Kingwood – a master-planned community whose name was inspired by this joint venture and became home to thousands.
Kingwood boasts a natural lifestyle within its original ecosystem. Among the tall pines, shade trees, and original homes, more than 75 miles of greenbelt paths weave in and out of its many neighborhoods. Additionally, several parks – such as River Grove Park, East End Park, and Creekwood Nature Preserve – offer hiking, fishing, boating and other outdoor recreational activities in beautiful, natural settings.
Beyond its beauty and natural charm, Kingwood also supports many businesses within its shopping districts, which include many restaurants to satisfy any palate or craving.
Kingwood has four stunning 18-hole golf courses in The Clubs of Kingwood, which, in addition to world-class golf, offers dining, social life, racquet sports, pools, and a fitness club. Additionally, other venues offering fitness and wellness activities include Lake Houston YMCA, Club Studio Fitness, Lifetime Fitness, and more.
Kingwood also provides some of the best schools in the Humble Independent School District. Humble ISD is known for its stellar student achievement and active parent involvement. There also are several private school options in Kingwood and the surrounding areas, including Covenant Preparatory School, Christian Life Center Academy, and two Montessori schools. Lone Star College-Kingwood Campus is part of the Lone Star College System, the largest institution of higher education in the Houston area.
Housing options are as plentiful and diverse as Kingwood, itself, and boast multiple apartment complexes, condominiums, town homes, and single-family homes. Median home price in Kingwood is around $360,000, and homes range in price from $145,000 to $2,500,000.
