Parish Life

Good Shepherd has an active parish life beyond worship that builds fellowship among our congregation and connects us to our community. In addition to our many small groups, our parish life is enhanced by several parish-wide events throughout the year, including: making of Advent wreaths, Ladies Christmas Social, Carols and Cookies, Shrove Tuesday pancake breakfast, Easter egg hunt, Fourth of July patriotic picnic, blessing of the backpacks, blessing of the pets, and occasional after-service brunches.

The Good Shepherd Families Group

The Good Shepherd Families group meets for dinner or lunch once a month at a local restaurant with a playground so the kids can play while their parents socialize. This group is made up largely of families that attend the 9:15 am family service, but is open to all.

Prime Timers

The Prime Timers, who feel they are in the “prime of their lives,” gather periodically for good food, good fun, and good fellowship at local restaurants, both old favorites and new offerings in the area. Typically, between 30 and 40 members attend the casual get-togethers.

Roadrunners

The Roadrunners offer fellowship and fun for people aged 50 and up with day trips to various places of interest within a 150-mile radius of Houston.  Trips have included visits to the Museum of Natural History and Museum of Fine Arts, the Mize Azalea Gardens in Nacogdoches, The Painted Churches in Schulenburg, and the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library in College Station.

KnitCrochet

This group gathers monthly in our Mission Center to knit and crochet items to support Good Shepherd’s outreach, such as scarves and caps for the Seafarers’ Centers at the Port of Houston and knitted baby caps for newborns at the Kingwood Medical Center. Whether beginner or experienced, everyone is welcome to serve in this ministry, make new friends, and enjoy fun fellowship.

Women’s Book Group

This group of avid readers builds a monthly reading list and meets for lively discussion of the book of the month. Titles are chosen a few months at a time to keep selections current, and meetings are interspersed with Christmas and spring luncheons.

Book Club

Casserole Patrol

We show God’s love by making food for people in our community who have recently given birth or who are dealing with physical limitations.

Treat Our Visitors

We welcome visitors by bringing them homemade cookies and information about life at Good Shepherd.

Funerals

This ministry takes care of people in our community when someone dies by providing food and setting up the funeral reception.

God,

We seek Your guidance for helping our parishioners build and strengthen a community of faith through fellowship, hospitality, celebration, and remembrance.

Amen.
